	I just read a book on Stockholm Syndrome. It started off badly but, by the end, I really liked it.

	I did not want to talk about French words in English generally, I was just fascinated by the logic of the "survival" of the the "noble" and "peasant" terms till today.

	Also in dutch...they use lots of words taken from french. My friend was in Amsterdam and wanted sinaasappelsap (orange juice) and they didnt understand...in Amsterdam they just drink jus d´orange :D

	Meridion: I know the theory, we've even been told of it in school. Nonetheless, the influence is rather strong. Thanks to comparison I have with German and Old Norse I can see how many english words are French (Latin) inspired.

	I have never thought about French influence on English language (except such obvious words as "beauty"). However recently I heard very interesting theory. Thanks to William Conqueror and his Normans who became English nobility, contemporary English language has different terms for animals and meat on the table - pork from French vs. swine or pig from Anglo-Saxon, beef vs. cow etc.

I hoped that my FCE could help me with some exams at University, but that didn´t happend and nobody cares about that because I have some course from EU and MŠMT (it useless actually, because we are talking four hours every tuesday about mailing, phoning etc, really interesting and important for my study of history :-)). But that´s good point, that my FCE could help me with the Erasmus, if I decide to try it. Thanks LC :-D

	I have been actually lucky not to have FCE or anything. I wanted to go to Sweden, however my friend skipped me in the list because he had spent some time in Britain. As I had better marks, I would have been evaluated better than he was if I had had anything to proove my english skills. However now I know I've been very lucky to go to Finland.

	Dara: http://englishplus.com/grammar/00000143.htm Well, I have some experience with this site as a quite reliable one, and it says: "the beginning of paragraphs is indented. If not indented, be sure to skip a space between paragraphs" This is what most other pages on Google say and I have never seen the need for skipping lines in any book on english writing, so I'd guess that it's optional.

	I am glad to hear the Stat Exam has changed. Anyway, if you are considering an exam, unless you want to study English at university, I would always go for FCE/CAE/CPE, since it is known and acknowledged worldwide.

	Mivka: Yap, I'm sure. And I did FCE probably same time you did. It's just what I was told. (And yes, I had B for writing part. But my biggest probles are articles.)

Dara: I did my FCE two years ago and used normal Czech paragraphs without any loss of points, I haven't heard anything about using skipped line during this course, my nieces and nephew in USA use normal paragraphs like we do, my friend who studied in Britain doesn't skip lines... are you sure with this? Kantůrek has typical English for book translators. He has excellent passive knowledge of English and excellent active knowledge of Czech. And that's all he needs. When he speaks English, it really isn't that good, he says :) And the State Exam's concept was changed, from what I read it seems that right now it's quite similar to the certificates.

	I know, my mum says it too. It's just interesting what you can do with this "bad" exam :-)
