Q: poll works better I believe...

about the preposition... im not sure as well :D

Quadrix, vloženo 18:00:07  26. 07. 2008

I think it is hard to choose an answer in the inquiry (I hope it is the right word), because some movies I like to watch home and some I enjoy more in (hell, is it the right preposition or not?!) cinema.

Legolas Craft, vloženo 15:33:18  07. 07. 2008

"which I Knew the meanING of" is correct, I suppose... not sure 'bout the article...
"a word" sounds nicer to me than "one word"

Vever, vloženo 00:02:08  07. 07. 2008

Mixing languages is funny, I read once one word somewhere, which I new a mean of, but I didn´t know the language :)

When I was in Netherlands I was trying to think in Dutch, but for some reason I thought in English. So my sentences looked like this: Ik denk dat, you must be erg gezellig :o) and for god´s sake, they understood me :o)

toomz, vloženo 18:54:31  01. 07. 2008

Well my situation is also funny, now in Berlin I speak mostly English, German or German-English. All the time some very bad mixtures :)

Mellor, vloženo 17:54:53  01. 07. 2008

Worst is when dunno some words in czech, so I help myself with english :o) well bro thinks I am weird :o))

Quendi, vloženo 16:14:42  01. 07. 2008

Most of the time I think in english, partially mixed with czech, so I feel kind of schizophrenic:)

Aditu, vloženo 15:38:38  01. 07. 2008

one day at work and I think half chinese, half english ... with some german and czech words/sentences :) it's really funny to work for an international company ... I like it :)

Mellor, vloženo 14:19:42  01. 07. 2008

Two chapters of HP in english and I am finished too :o)

Dara, vloženo 13:50:53  01. 07. 2008

yap, even few episodes of some tv show is enough for me to think in English

Legolas Craft, vloženo 13:14:16  01. 07. 2008

Meridion: Well, I dont even need to read english books at all :D

Meridion, vloženo 08:09:38  01. 07. 2008

When I read too much English books, I find myself thinking in English.

toomz, vloženo 18:31:01  30. 06. 2008

Anyway it is interesting how language is bound with our thinking. Just try imagine something in your head without "naming" it :) Every time you try to "summon" some object, you have to name it first.

And I am sure I am using another parts of my brain when speaking foreing language... If I use a brain at all...

Vever, vloženo 01:18:27  30. 06. 2008

Me too, but that's because I can't speak english very well, so I need to simplify a little bit what I'm saying and help myself with more exact gesticulation.

And that article about bilingual persons, I read once, that they have problems only if the two cultures are really different.
There was an example about some european language and language of some indian tribe or somethink like that. Thay said, that if there are two boxes, one wooden and one made of paper and a piece of paper, someone from europe would find that two boxes more similar, but the indian would find more similar the paper box and the piece of paper.
Becouse they just think differently. They are more focused on materials, like calling a banana tree something like "big banana" a leaf from that tree is "flat banana" a banana fruit could be "small banana" and so on.

Actually, I think the article is about changing your personality when speaking different language rather then being in different environment.

I have same experience as toomz. When speaking English I am more lively, open and emotional then when speaking Czech.

Meridion, vloženo 20:14:28  29. 06. 2008

Toomz: I think your behavior and the article are two different phenomena.
I think it is natural to behave the same way as my surroundings, as it described in the article.
I am not sure if I understand description of your experience well.

toomz, vloženo 19:17:18  29. 06. 2008

Of course I am not billingual, but I think the principle is same...

This is quite interesting article (its short so read it! :)... I have the same "problem", if I am speaking longer in english, I am changing my personality. Its really annoying. Last few times I had to control myself to be normal :) Do you have the same problem? It is true I am little "bored" of my language. It goes automatically to my mind and I dont like working with it. But when I speak English, language is "in front" of my thinking so I am more... I dont know... open, more talking :)

I know it sounds weird, but really, when I speak English, I am changing my behaviour.
